I am – finally – out with the SEO Fitness Workbook for 2013 / 2014! This new and improved book is based on my SEO teaching experiences and works to explain my consulting philosophy. The basics of SEO – keyword definition, on page page tags, and off page links – are all explained and outlined in the book, which also includes worksheets and video links. I use the Workbook not just in my SEO classes but in my SEO consulting as well – a step-by-step guide to SEO success.

SEO Fitness Workbook: a Consulting-based Philosophy

SEO Fitness WorkbookSo much of success at SEO is being a good psychotherapist for my clients. Learning what they want to do, who they want to sell to… all of the touchy-feely things that become the keywords that are then placed onto other webpages and become their editorial links and pass them the “optimization value” for their website. I always say I do not do SEO ‘for’ someone, I do SEO ‘with’ someone. My latest SEO workbook is built on that philosophy and goes through the seven steps to successful SEO.

Here are some of the contents:

  • Keywords – defining great SEO-friendly keywords
  • Page Tags – understanding page tags and SEO
  • Link building – how to build links and get social mentions
  • Metrics – using (and understanding) Google Analytics for SEO

My Strategy of Best: Doing it WITH clients and not FOR clients

I have a client, whom I have been bugging to get a ‘tagline.’ A succinct statement of what his company does so people instantly get it. Then I thought – hey, what’s my tagline. And I realized that a really good tag line to explain my philosophy of search engine optimization was this:

I do SEO with you, not for you

What do I mean by this? I mean that philosophically I can’t really do SEO ‘for’ a company without its active participation. This starts with defining keywords – as only you know your business, and only you know your potential customer searches. Beyond that, we have to work together (with each other) to implement strong SEO-friendly content, as well as build legitimate links in a post-Penguin world.

Other SEO companies and consultants still insist that they can do all of this ‘for’ you – by doing some hocus pocus black magic, without your knowledge. That wasn’t very possible a while back, and it is increasingly less so in today’s SEO environment.

So doing SEO with you implies that I can’t be the ‘best’ SEO consultant in every industry since there are others and with every personality type – such as Joshua G. I can only be my best as a consultant when you work with me, and together WE are the best SEO consultant (team) in San Francisco. Client participation, you see, is even more important today than it was just a few weeks ago.
