WORKSHOPS ON SEO AND SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING

The POMA conference and workshops were held March 19 and 20 in Springfield, Missouri. TheSEO and Social Media Marketing first was an “SEO Basics” workshop that explained both on page and off page search engine optimization tactics for writers and bloggers in particular. Participants learned the importance of keyword definition, how to correctly place keywords inside of HTML tags such as the TITLE tag, as well as both on page and off page tactics to enhance the rank on search engines of blog posts and product pages. The second was a session on “Personal Branding.” Dr. McDonald recently concluded a two-day workshop at Stanford University on personal branding, and his workshop for the POMA conference was an abbreviated version of this, customized to the needs of writers, bloggers, videographers, and photographers. Participants were guided through the branding process, starting with how to write a personal branding statement, proceeding through how to blog in an SEO-friendly way, and concluding with how to use social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to promote their personal brand. Third, Dr. McDonald conducted a workshop on the optimization of both images and videos for both SEO and Social Media Marketing. As an organization promoting the outdoor sports, many POMA members are involved in the production of hunting, fishing, and other types of wildlife photography and videography. Members were keen to learn how to promote themselves and their work, online, reaching new audiences yet retaining copyright over their intellectual property.
